How To Get Your Utah Real Estate License: A Step-by-Step Guide

Interested in starting a real estate career, but don’t know the steps to get licensed in Utah? That’s one of the biggest questions I hear as I build my team here at the Carey Group with Century 21. The process may sound overwhelming at first, but it’s actually pretty simple once you break it down.

The first step is to enroll in a real estate school. Utah requires 120 credit hours of education, which can be completed entirely online and at your own pace. You have up to a year from the time you start to finish the coursework. Once you complete those hours, you’ll take a test through the school before moving on to the official licensing exams.

Pass the state and national exams. These are given together through a national testing company, and you’ll need to score at least 70% to pass. If you don’t pass the first time, there’s no need to stress; you can retake the exams as many times as necessary.

Fees to cover before you can officially begin. These include your membership with the Board of Realtors, access to the MLS, your Realtor key, and your Utah real estate license. Altogether, the cost is approximately $2,500, although some fees are prorated depending on the time of year.
